Mineral specimens and crystals from South Africa, Northern and Western Cape

Mining and minerals are a large component of the South African economy. From large scale international mining consortiums to small one-man operations. Below are links to various mining areas with pictures and information.

We have listed a few areas where we source interesting and unique crystals. Here you will find pictures and information on lesser known areas as well as a selection of crystals for sale.

We are concentrating on three provinces: Northern Cape, Western Cape and Mpumalanga (KwaNdebele).

NORTHERN CAPE:

The Greater Orange River Area is a vast area that lies in the Northern Cape. It has a big variety of quartz, with multi-coloured phantoms, smokies and red hematite coated quartz crystals.

Kalahari Manganese Fields: This is a very important and world-famous mineral producing area, situated on the border between the Northern and North-Western Cape. It produces minerals like aegirine, calcite, chalcedony, ettringite, andradite garnets, gypsum, hausmannite, apophyllite, inesite, manganite, marcasite, pectolite, pyrite etc.

WESTERN CAPE:

We have interesting quartz crystals from little-known localities such as Vredendal, Villiersdorp, Ceres and Worcester.

KWANDEBELE:

Lots of lovely quartz specimens in shades of amethyst, white and citrine, including cactus quartz.
