Aquamarine Crystal on Schorl Crystals –  NERA 028

Description:  A light blue aquamarine crystal (34 x 11 x 10 mm) with an interesting 'stepped', gemmy termination, sits on schorl crystals (variety foitite) and some feldspar which have a partial coating of very minute, greenish / yellowish crystals of a (to us, unknown) mineral. 

The aquamarine crystal's termination has a few very small nicks, while the matrix has very little damage.

The specimen displays well on a flat surface.

                                       NaFe²⁺₃Al₆Si₆O₁₈(BO₃)₃(OH)₄  (schorl)    
                                       KAlSi₃O₈  (feldspar)  

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (aquamarine) 7.5 - 8.0
                                          (schorl)  7.5       
                                          (feldspar)  6 - 6.5
