Schorl and Aquamarine Crystal Specimen – NERA 007

Measurements:  60 x 58 x 22 mm

Description:  A group of schorl and light blue aquamarine crystals, most of which have schorl crystal inclusions. Some sections of the specimen has feldspar on it. 

The aquamarine crystals have only a few minute to small nicks, while some of the schorl crystal (variety foitite) have damage.

Chemical Composition:  Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈  (aquamarine) 
                                       NaFe²⁺₃Al₆Si₆O₁₈(BO₃)₃(OH)₄  (schorl)    
                                       KAlSi₃O₈  (feldspar)  

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (aquamarine) 7.5 - 8.0
                                          (schorl)  7.5                                      
                                          (feldspar)  6 - 6.5
