Demantoid Garnet on Feldspar - NER 054

Measurements:  50 x 40 x 28 mm

Description:  A green demantoid garnet crystal (11 x 08 mm) sits on feldspar, which has several crystallized faces, some being coated with (?)hematite. The garnet has a tiny piece of (?)schorl partially embedded in its side.

The garnet has a large nick on one of its sides.

Weight of Specimen:  29.5 g 

Chemical Composition:  Ca₃Fe³₂⁺(SiO₄)₃ (garnet)                                                                      KAlSi₃O₈ (feldspar) 

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (garnet) 6.5-7
                                           (feldspar)
