Demantoid Garnets on Feldspar Matrix – NER 044

Measurements:  47 x 33 x 17 mm 

Description:  Green andradite garnets (variety demantoid), the largest 11 mm on edge, sit on a feldspar matrix. The bottom of the specimen also has a few minute garnet crystals on it. 

A few of the crystals are damaged.

Weight of Specimen:  51.1 g

Chemical Composition:  Ca₃Fe³₂⁺(SiO₄)₃  (garnets)
                                        KAlSi₃O₈  (feldspar)   

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (garnets)  6.5-7
                                           (feldspar)  6 - 6.5
