Mining and minerals are a large component of the South African economy. From large scale international mining consortiums to small one man operations. Below are links to various mining areas with pictures and information.

We have listed a few areas where we source interesting and unique crystals. Here you will find pictures and information on lesser known areas as well as a selection of crystals for sale.

We are concentrating on two provinces: Northern Cape and Western Cape.

NORTHERN CAPE:

The Greater Orange River Area is a vast area that lies in the Northern Cape. It has a big variety of quartz, with multi-coloured phantoms, smokies and red hematite coated quartz crystals.

Kalahari Manganese Fields: This is a very important and world-famous mineral producing area, situated on the border between the Northern and North-Western Cape. It produces minerals like aegirine, calcite, chalcedony, ettringite, andradite garnets, gypsum, hausmannite, apophyllite, inesite, manganite, marcasite, pectolite, pyrite etc.

WESTERN CAPE:

We have interesting quartz crystals from little-known localities such as Vredendal, Villiersdorp, Ceres and Worcester.
