Cluster of orangy-red quartz crystals, Orange River, South Africa


Measurements:  38 x 34 x 23 mm

Description:  A cluster of quartz crystals with an orangy-red colour. The beautiful colour is due to a thin coating of hematite and a final layer of clear quartz. On closer observation one can see that the crystals are true phantoms. The back of the specimen has bits of black hematite on the surface. Some terminations have a few very small nicks.

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  7

Location:  Orange River, Northern Cape, South Africa.
