Tourmaline in Quartz – NER 016

Green tourmaline crystal in quartz crystal

Measurements:  75 x 31 x 26 mm

Description:  A green tourmaline crystal (31 mm long), together with a few smaller tourmaline crystals, sits partially embedded in a quartz crystal. The quartz crystal has a whitish coating, which gives it a dull appearance, but when held against light, there is some transparency, and a totally embedded tourmaline crystal of about 17 mm long, can be vaguely seen.

The large tourmaline's lower part is badly damaged, but the upper part (16 mm) is in good shape, with a gemmy, green colour (image top right). The termination there has a few nicks.

The quartz crystal has a large nick to its back (image 2nd from bottom, left).
