Quartz Crystal with Schorl and Goshenite - Erongo Region, Namibia

 Measurements:   82 x 49 x 45 mm

Description:  A quartz crystal with inclusions of schorl crystals and an arrangement of goshenite (colourless beryls) partly embedded in the quartz crystal.

A number of cracks that divide the quartz into different colour zones, suggests that this specimen was shaped under tremendous heat activity. 

The quartz crystal has a bad nick to the termination and damage to the base.

                                   NaFe2+3Al6Si6O18(BO3)3(OH)4  (schorl)
                                   Be3Al2Si6O18  (goshenite)

Hardness on Mohs Scale:  (quartz)  7
                                      (schorl)  7.5
                                               (goshenite)  7.5–8
