Bi-Coloured Beryl Crystal - NER 011

Bi-coloured beryl from very rare find, Erongo, Namibia

Measurements:  49 x 33 x 29 mm

Weight of Specimen:  74 g

Description:  The best part of the crystal has an aquamarine colour, while the termination is a dark yellow with a touch of green. The side facets of the crystal is coated with a thin layer of, what appears to be, feldspar. The photographs on the right were taken with the sunlight directly behind it.

A strange feature of most of these crystals is the concave shape spread across about two of the facets. In this specimen the concave part is very prominent, and there is a (?)feldspar crystal attached.

Except for some very small nicks, the termination is undamaged whereas the lower part has quite a bit of damage where it parted from its matrix.

According to experienced diggers at the mining area, they have never seen anything like this before.

This specimen comes from a very rare find!
