Slightly Bent Quartz Crystal Specimen - NBB 199

A nice-sized quartz specimen with the main crystal being slightly bent, and some gemmy areas

Measurements:  116 x 70 x 33 mm

Description:  A nice-sized quartz specimen with the main crystal being slightly bent, and some gemmy areas. When looking at it through a loupe, one can see that the more opaque areas are actually made up of thousands of extremely minute, trapped air bubbles. About half of the main crystal is gemmy, but with lots of gas inclusions, whilst the other (wider) part has only a small section that is transparent, and that also has gas inclusions. The lesser crystal, sitting at an angle to the main crystal's shaft, has about two-thirds that is gemmy (also with gas inclusions) and two small, light rainbows can be seen in it when tilted in light. The main termination has interesting growth patterns.

There are a few areas where bits of milky quartz have been deposited, some with extremely minute crystallization, especially the one over the gemmy part of the main crystal. The main crystal's wider end has a few termination facets, but also a re-crystallized area and an area where the white quartz had grown, so technically the specimen does not qualify for being double terminated.

The main crystal's termination appears to be perfect, while the lesser crystal's termination ridge has only a few very minute nicks, barely visible with the naked eye. There is a contact area and some damage of about 31 mm long towards the middle of the main crystal, and there's a thin flaw there just to the back of it, where another small crystal has fused to the main one.
